3rd XI Captain: Steve Martlew

The excitement of a new cricket season is upon us. With the clubs centenary just a year away, there is never a more optimistic time for cricket at Billinge Road. The 3XI in its role of developing the clubs future senior players will embark on another season in the West Lancashire Cricket League and hopefully improve on last year’s fantastic achievements.

Both the 1XI and 2XI are littered with players who have come through the junior ranks at Highfield and started their senior careers in the Sunday 3XI. We hope that many of our current players will continue that tradition and be 1XI & 2XI players of the next few seasons.

That said, it’s always great to welcome a couple of “older” players to share their knowledge and experiences and so I’m always keen to welcome new players – young or old – into the squad.

I’d like to wish Mike Farrell and Matty Wallace and all the 1XI & 2XI squads the best of luck for the forthcoming season as they look to build on last year’s successes and push for promotion to the premier league. I would finally like to wish all the 3XI players a successful 2023 season – let the runs and wickets flow. Up the Squirrels.
