Senior Cricket - 1ST XI
1st XI Captain: Ryan Hargreaves
Well, first things first.
I would like to thank JT for his efforts as captain over the last few years. He is a top guy who has done a top job for this club and he was the one who gave me the opportunity to play regular first team cricket.
I am absolutely privileged to have been given the opportunity to captain this club and it is something I have dreamt of since starting as an under 9’s player at Highfield 13 years ago.
Last season was an up and down season for us as a club, particularly as a first team squad, with us falling just short of our goal of promotion. Our bowling unit was exceptional throughout the season and brought us back into winning positions time and time again. It goes without saying that we performed way below par as a batting unit and that is something we need to improve on in this coming season.
I am delighted that Mike Farrell has returned to the club. His renowned batting prowess along with his wealthy experience, will be a great addition to the squad and in particular the batting line up.
I believe that we are in a great position to push for promotion in 2020.
I am under no illusions; it will be a challenging season with a number of strong sides all aiming for the same goal.
The club as a whole is in a healthy place going into the season and I wish Scott and Matty well with their respective squads, as they also aim for promotion and silverware in 2020.
One extra note that is of great importance to me, is aimed at all the junior players at the club.
I had my best years playing cricket as a junior at this cricket club and it is something that I would love to do over and over again. If you are a junior player reading this, then best of luck for the season and remember to enjoy every single minute of it!
I look forward to seeing you all over the 2020 season and hopefully we have a successful year both on and off the field.
